Denny Empie was a friend who would set up a table or booth at public events and handed out a free soda for any passerby who would fill out a survey entitled, “What Do You Think is Required to Get to Heaven?”
Over the years, thousands filled out the soda and earned their can of soda only to find out they could not “earn” their way into heaven.
Why would people stop for a can of soda? Why did his strategy work?
For one, a soda be thirst quenching. For another, a soda is sweet.
It made me wonder, what about me is “thirst quenching and sweet” that would make others be attracted to me and make them want to hear about the gospel?
On the other hand, what about me doesn’t quench or is bitter to the taste?
At Denny’s funeral, one person after another shared about Denny’s giving and humble spirit.
Sweet.
PORTAL TO HEAVEN: We are the soda in God’s “Soda Survey.” God puts us out in the public arena and wants to use us to open up portals to heaven.
Your very lives are a letter that anyone can read by just looking at you. Christ himself wrote it—not with ink, but with God’s living Spirit; not chiseled into stone, but carved into human lives—and we publish it.
