Eleventh Hour Connection

The only sounds seem to be the tens of thousands of reminders on my porch roof that it is a gloomy midwinter rainy Sunday.

It’s too quiet. I manage a nap. I pick up a book. I watch a travel show. I call a loved one to see if a visit will work. It doesn’t. My mate seems busy. I call my daughter and get her answering machine.

It’s as if I’m waiting for connection. It’s like being on hold.

I finally sink into bed and wonder when this lonely day will end. My bride’s eyes are starting to close. I kiss her goodnight.

I walk into the bathroom and fill the pitcher with water for my humidifier. I brush my teeth. I turn the bedroom television off for it’s not and can never be the connection of my search.

When all hope is lost, the phone rings and it’s my daughter Face-Timing with her sidekick, one-year-old son who is becoming my personal YouTube-like superstar. I feel that I’m right there motoring around on the floor as he makes every quirky face known to man.

Life is like that. We seek relational, career, hobby and all manner of connections. But sometimes, it’s not going to come until the eleventh hour.

C.S. Lewis was in his fifties when he “connected” with his only wife.

Jesus, as patient a groom as ever there was, awaits his bride as she makes herself ready.

PORTAL TO HEAVEN: Love is the connection that everyone seeks. It will come because it is promised. But we have to do our part - even if it’s simply the act of leaving a voicemail.

You will seek Me and find Me when you search for Me with all your heart…Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you…And let us not neglect our meeting together, as some people do, but encourage one another, especially now that the day of his return is drawing near…the wedding of the Lamb has come, and his bride has made herself ready.

Jeremiah 29:13 NASB, James 4:8 ESV, Hebrews 10:25 NLT, Revelation 19:7 NIV
