Sex, Souls & Sales

Sex is one of Satan’s favorite plays when it comes to the selling of a soul. If “loose lips can sink ships,” sex can certainly torpedo a soul.

If a few minutes, nights, months or even years of physical pleasure is the asking price for a heart, one must conclude, “that soul doesn’t believe it is worth much.”

Myriads of studies by psychologists will never come up with a definitive answer for this perplexing question. The reason: it’s so simple that it’s overlooked.

Growing up in the ’60’s and ’70’s, I can tell you that the acceptance of out-of-wedlock encounters that spawned the “sexual revolution” wasn’t the only thing that led to my promiscuity in college. It wasn’t even that it was the norm in a lot of our circles.

The reason why I sold my soul for sex was that I wanted to be held by God. I just didn’t know it. Satan offered sex outside of marriage as the cheap substitute. What I desired is what every soul is after: communion with a lover who accepts we are, gives back so much more and leaves us lying in the wonder of true love’s miracle and mystery.

So, when you read about an affair or scandal that takes down a marriage, a political or church leader or that friend you “would have never guessed,” be sure that they didn’t know how much their soul was worth to greatest lover they just jilted.

PORTAL TO HEAVEN: Selling one’s soul isn’t as much a temptation when we comprehend the purchase price of that same soul by our true lover.

for God bought you with a high price. So you must honor God with your body.

1 Corinthians 6:20 (NLT)
