Our eleven and nine year-old eyes exclaimed, “Look, a deer!
“Wait, there’s a second one.”
It was later in the day, but in the shadows I could make out the two figures that weren’t being spooked by the voices of the children. Their heads were bowed as they feasted on the fallen mulberries under that fabulous tree.
Genesis plainly states that man and women are to rule over animals and yet this pair of deer were teaching me as sure as the birds of the air do as Jesus pointed out. The next morning, I learned my lesson from my “deer” friends. I sauntered over to the mulberry tree and had a sumptuous breakfast picking one after another off the tree.
Just because fathers are the head over the house, it doesn’t they can’t learn from wives, children and grandchildren.
In this case, it simply meant breakfast. In other times, it might mean a weightier sustenance.
Either way, fathers lead by learning and those that are “under” them will notice if this is not their modus operandi.
PORTAL TO HEAVEN: As seen through human eyes, Jesus was said to be amazed at the faith of a couple of Gentiles. May we never miss the portals to heaven given as gifts by those “under” us.
When Jesus heard these things, he marveled at him, and turning to the crowd that followed him, said, “I tell you, not even in Israel have I found such faith.”…“Lord,” she replied, “even the dogs under the table eat the children’s crumbs. Then he told her, “For such a reply, you may go; the demon has left your daughter.” Luke 7:9 ESV, Mark 7:28,29 NIV
