PHOTO: Literally in the weeds.
In Upstate New York, April showers bring May weeds and they had threatened to make a beachhead on my Marine statue.
It all happened so quickly. I had yanked out dozens of encroaching weeds just a few weeks before.
It brought to mind how honor and dishonor for our armed forces can change so rapidly.
Having lived through the glorious post-World War II movies that made every man in uniform a hero to the transitioning of framing the military as “Vietnam- baby-killers” within the span of a few short years makes you appreciate nations so quickly get in the weeds within a brief rainy philosophical season.
I decided to weed.
He continued to salute.

PORTAL TO HEAVEN: Criticism has no effect on God’s character…it only bolsters it. I offered my back to those who beat me, my cheeks to those who pulled out my beard; I did not hide my face from mocking and spitting…God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God. Isaiah 50:6 NIV, 2 Corinthians 5:21 NIV
