Tonight, I will be doing a brief talk and book signing on “Portals to Heaven,” and the subjects of spiritual openings that manifest literally or metaphorically.
I hope those of you in the Upstate New York area can join me in Albany at the Book House at Stuyvesant Plaza from 6:00-7:15 pm
My writing did not start out focusing on portals. Growing up in the Watergate years, it had always been my desire to be an investigative reporter of heaven; to go to the high places and expose God for the…incredible, loving, perfect Father God that he is.
Sometimes, things don’t turn out the exact way we figured.
In my case, God decided to bring that more ethereal desire down to earth. He opened my senses to the exposure of His goodness down here. I began to become aware of portals to heaven right in front of me on a day-to-day basis. As my sensitivity to these “love letters” increased, I began to realize that a sense of joy and security could permeate my day as His presence became more and more obvious.
No, writing about portals is not the great American novel and it’s not a hit song or movie, but it’s just like God to take a good and healthy desire and tweak it into something that He does instead of me. Yes, you guessed it. He makes a fine editor.
There will come a time when I will be in heaven and have my exposé pen in hand. But for now, I'll have my pen in hand at my book signing.
PORTAL TO HEAVEN: Portals are normally closer and more obvious than we think, though we love to make easy assignments tough!
The LORD your God will delight in you if you obey his voice and keep the commands and decrees written in this Book of Instruction, and if you turn to the LORD your God with all your heart and soul, this command I am giving you today is not too difficult for you to understand, and it is not beyond your reach. It is not kept in heaven, so distant that you must ask, 'Who will go up to heaven and bring it down so we can hear it and obey?’ .…This is what the Lord says: ‘Will you build a house for me to live in?’…I have never said …’Why haven’t you built me a house of cedar?’…David said, “Lord God, who am I?[Your are] extraordinary, Lord God. …You won't be able to say, 'Here it is!' or 'It's over there!' For the Kingdom of God is already among you… Deuteronomy 30:10,11,12 NLT, 2 Samuel 7:5,7,18,19 NCV, Luke 17:21 NLT [Editor’s brackets]
