When I arranged for a book signing at our local book store, I didn’t know what to expect.
Naturally, I was hoping that strangers might be attracted to the message of “Portals to Heaven” and how this might bring them closer to God. I envisioned some steady customers of the store reading the poster and stopping by. Perhaps there would be browsers reading down the aisles who would overhear my talk and have a seat. Or, at the very least, there might be those attracted to the refreshments. LOL.
It didn’t turn out the way I expected.
Attendees were mostly friends and family and a couple of people whom I didn’t know.
That’s a lot like life.
There are a lot of uncertainties in life. There are probably things that you and I are concerned about of such as health, financial, relational and other more nebulous issues about the future.
But isn’t it just like God to provide us with the constant of friends and family?
Their love and loyalty, their “just being there” like they were at the book-signing, and the knowledge that they are never further than the phone is a portal to heaven in that it is the very same message that God has been trying to get through to us since our birth: I am closer than the air.
PORTAL TO HEAVEN: There will be one final book-signing: The Lamb's Book of Life and Jesus will be there for that one!
there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother…I will never leave you nor forsake you…And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age...Nothing impure will ever enter it, nor will anyone who does what is shameful or deceitful, but only those whose names are written in the Lamb’s book of life.
